Her face upturned towards the sky, the young girl flicked her long blonde hair out of her face as she gazed at the world around her. Most people never knew how much Gwendolyn treasured nature. Sure, technology was great at times, but when it came down to it she'd rather soak up the wonders of nature. Camp Half-Blood was one of the only places she could actually do this. Human civilization was already pushing the borders of surrounding forests. You could hardly travel anywhere without running into a bustling city. Would mortals ever think to stop their constant expansion into the wild? Probably not. She couldn't help but think how stupid people were. They had no idea what they were throwing away.

With a sigh, the young demigod took a seat on the ground, surrounded by patches of strawberries. She didn't much mind the strawberry field. It was a nice place to think. She probably would have wanted to send her mom an Iris message, but how the hell was she going to create a rainbow out here? She had a few drachma left from her last quest, along with quite a few injuries. It had been awhile though so they were healed up nicely, though her scars were very noticeable if you looked for them.

Gwendolyn glanced back towards camp for a moment, then returned her gaze to the ground in front of her. She would have loved to be practicing her swordsmanship - or maybe even starting on a new sword - but for some reason, she wasn't in the mood. This confused her. Furrowing her brow, she reached into her pocket, pulling out a cherry red iPod. She inserted the earphones into her ears, playing Darling by Eyes Set To Kill almost at full blast. She liked for all sounds to be blocked out so she could relax. Closing her eyes softly, she took a deep breath, beginning to balance herself.

[Gabriel Zack Lastings]

Gabe wandered out into the strawberry field. It was a clear day out, and Gabe hadn't been in the fields in a while. The smell of strawberries could be smelt whenever there was a gust of wind. He smiled, he could feel the nature around him. The grass he stepped on during this walk was happy and thriving in the summer heat. He sighed as he reached a hill, he could see the field stretch for what seemed like forever. Gabe followed the rows upon rows of the fruit bering plants. He knelt down where he stood and gazed upon one of the berries. They were ripe, but still many of the berries were in need of some water.

Gabe stood up yet again and saw some blonde hair flying wildly around a figure that Gabe could not instantly recognize. He took a few cautious steps and confirmed that it was human, probably a girl. He didn't know to be scared or intrigued. Gabe took another set of steps and sat down slightly behind her to the left. He could feel the plants cry as he sat among them. He usually would ignore the plants but he couldn't help but cringe when they started to scream. How he hated hearing the plants. It was hard to explain, but Gabe could feel what the plant was feeling, and in his mind, it actually formed words, not just feelings. Gabe let some power leek out of him, the plants around him grew a little more wildly, so they were strong enough to support him and not suffer. They weren't inhuman size, but more like they were on hormones. Jake cleared his throat and spoke louder than necessary "Nice day today." He kept looking straight ahead, he could see the horizon. Gabe didn't know if she heard him over the wind. he turned his head slightly and saw the earphones in her ears. He doubted she heard him, but he didn't want to repeat himself, just incase, he didn't want to look stupid.

Gwendolyn could already feel herself starting to relax. It was really nice, considering how hard it was for a demigod to ever have time for it. Hell, with the Mist fading an whatnot, it was even harder than usual. What the fuck was happening? What could cause this? She asked herself these questions almost every day. She really wanted to know, but she couldn't seem to find the answer. Maybe it was linked to this apparent upcoming danger? that might be good, since they could kill two birds with one stones. Then again, if this this thing could influence the Mist to these extremes, it was probably really powerful. We're in a load of shit, she thought to herself. She was a big pessimist, but didn't let it show. People would probably think she was emo and weak then. Her negative outlook didn't stop her from being brave and cocky though. That was how she was naturally. She doubted anything would change that, even if there was an insanely powerful, dark force rising. She was still Gwen.

She didn't immediately notice the boy come up behind her, continuing to relax and listen to her music. She could barely hear him when he spoke, but realized that the sound hadn't been a part of her song. she raised an eyebrow lightly. Maybe she'd been hearing things? Oh well. she'd look around just to make sure. Removing one earphone, she glanced around. She immediately jumped, startled, when she laid her eyes on the boy behind her. "Sweet fucking Hades!" she exclaimed. "You scared the shit out of me!" Putting her hand over her chest, she shook her head lightly. Jeesh! Composing herself a little, she noticed that the plants around this guy were a little larger than normal. The thought of strawberries on steroids popped into her head, making her chuckled lightly in amusement. So this boy was probably a son of either Dionysus or Demeter probably. Gwendolyn then turned her attention back to him. "Is it a habit of yours to sneak up on people or are you just some kind of ninja?" she asked, her tone more joking than insulting. "Ninja or not," she continued. "I'd advise you not to sneak up on me. I tend to attack people that scare me like that. Good thing I didn't have a weapon." She laughed lightly. She seriously got paranoid about people sneaking up on her though. Gwen probably would have decapitated the guy if she'd had her sword on her. How shitty would that have been?

Gabe smirked at her. She was funny, he liked that. He shrugged his shoulders as he looked at her. "Well, if I was a ninja, I would know that you didn't have a weapon." Gabe joked with her. He couldn't help but be glad she had heard him. Well, he thought she did. "And if I was a ninja I would approach you when you didn't have a weapon" Gabe looked up at the sky. It was a clear blue, all of the clouds that would appear were quickly whisked away into the distance. He always forgot how pretty nature could be. "Minimizing the risk of you biting my head off." Jake gave her a smile. He hadn't answered her question but it was sufficient enough.

He took her warning. He made a mental note about surprising her. He turned to see her face more clearly. He had no idea who her Olympian parent was, but if her warning was true, he was crossing out Athena and Aphrodite. He gave her a smile and saw her piercing. Not many campers had piercings other than their ears. He ws glad to see that she was different from the main stream. He couldn't stand stereotypical girls, they were airheads. That, and he got nervous around girl girls. Gabe looked at the girl and prayed she didn't like the colour pink. He cleared his throat and introduced himself. " My name is Gabe, Son of Demeter, but you probably guessed that." He said with a playful smile on his face. He didn't mention that he was also head of the Cabin. He couldn't help but find the girl familiar. " I am sorry, but you look familiar, have I met you before?" Gabe asked. He just cut the bullcrap. He hated it when people just talked for the sake of talking.

Gwendolyn laughed lightly when the boy rambled on about ninja stuff. This guy was pretty amusing. He didn't seem to be all ditsy like the children of Aphrodite. Ugh! She hate those kids so much! Were they good for anything other than distracting shallow people from their training? she really just felt like beheading them all! They were just annoying attention whores! After this boy was done with his ninja talk, she was silent for a moment. she the glanced around, leaning a little closer to him and lowering her voice to a whisper. "So you are a ninja?" she asked, grinning at her joke.

But now, she decided to drop the ninja stuff. She'd probably bore herself to tears if she kept going on with her lame jokes. She smiled lightly when he introduced himself as Gabe. She guessed it was short for Gabriel or something. If so, it was no wonder he decided on the nickname. Eesh! She also chuckled when he spoke of his Olympian parent, saying she probably guessed that already. "Yeah," she said. "I could sort of tell by the mutant plants." she let out another chuckle before introducing herself. "I'm Gwendolyn, daughter of Ares. But you can call me Gwen." She wondered if Gabe would be surprised of this. She was in a pretty calm state right now from her meditating after all, pretty laid-back. The only thing he knew that could relate to Ares was her tendency to attack someone if they sneaked up on her. She was fairly violent. It was pretty obvious who her Olympian parent was when you saw her training. She was a skilled fighter and pretty damn merciless. Of course, she didn't end up killing or maiming any of the campers - as much as she'd like to get a hold on one of Aphrodite's kids. Gwen tilted her head lightly when Gabe asked if he'd met her before. She looked familiar. come to think of it, he looked pretty familiar to her as well. "Hm..." she said, thinking. "Well I'm head of the Ares cabin so I guess it's not odd that I seem familiar."

Jake smiled at her joke, he couldn't help it. There wasn't much time anymore around camp to joke around or just talk of useless stuff. He also blushed a little when she mentioned the mutated plants, it didn't take a genius to guess who made them grow. "Well, how would you feel if someone sat on you,they were to weak, so I made them stronger... I will put the plants back to normal when I get off of them" Gabe smirked, he didn't mention the fact that he could hear the plants complaining under Gwen's body. He remembered her now. Gabe was new to being the cabin leader, it would be useful to have an Ares Demeter alliance the next capture the flag. he decided no to bring it up quite yet.

Gabe could feel the plants trying to get his attention. He really wanted to burn them for being annoying but that would be counter productive. he decided to change the subject. "So, any perks of being daughter of the god of war?" Gabe couldn't help but ask. He was curious of to many things to actually count, he found most things intriguing. Gabe looked at one of the Strawberry plants and traced the vain in the leaf. Plants were so pretty, they even looked like they could be functioning things and not just plants. He knew they were alive, but he second guessed what he was taught in school, he was pretty sure that plants had minds as well. He wondered what gifts an Ares camper would have, he didn't really know. Most Ares campers don't sit around and talk to Gabe, most either try and kill him, or make fun of him. Whatever, he was use to it.

She chuckled when Gabe brought up that it wasn't really nice to have someone sit on you. She could probably guess how the plants felt. Compared to the plants, she was huge. So they were probably being crushed by her weight. For a moment, she felt really bad for them. But the sound of Gabe's voice pretty much snapped her out of it. Gwendolyn shrugged lightly when he said he'd put them back to normal size when he got off of them. "The plants on steroids don't really bother me," she said. "It's pretty amusing actually." she chuckled lightly again. "And I really do feel bad for being so ginormous compared to them. They probably don't appreciate me sitting on them, right?" She smirked lightly. Who ever thought she'd get along with a child of Demeter. Then again, they'd just met. You never really knew if you could be friends with someone just like that... for her anyways. Most people found it easy to make friends and all, but she had some trust issues that most people couldn't stand. but most demigods had trust issues, didn't they. They sure as hell didn't have an easy life and she'd learned by now that anyone on the streets could be a monster in disguise. They just weren't safe. Thank the gods for Camp Half-Blood!

Gwendolyn was a little surprised at Gabe's question, her eyes widening every so slightly. She shrugged, her usual cocky and confident expression returning to her. "Only a few, really," she said. "We've got more strength and agility than you'd expect a human to have, though considering we're part god I don't really think that should be surprising." she paused a moment to chuckle and smirk lightly. "And we can make some kickass battle plans. Though, considering that most of us follow our gut, sometimes those follow through. I like to think I have more self control than my siblings though." She smiled confidently, although it wasn't your normal chipper smile like most people showed off. Her smiles were more like smirks, yet brighter to some degree. "What about you?" she asked, her words filled with curiosity. "Other than helping plants grow, what can a son of Demeter like you do?" she looked at him with interest. Most campers would probably be frightened if a child of Ares took interest in them. She hoped she didn't scare this boy off though. She was starting to like him.

Gabe smile broadened. He hadn't really expected her to tell him, but it was nice to know he wasn't the only weird one. He nodded his head as she spoke, he absorbed what she said with interest, she was a very interesting person to talk to. Her expression stayed the same but sometimes her eyes betrayed more than her face wanted to. He smirked at her question. "Well, your abilities are pretty epic, remind me not to go one on one with you next capture the flag" Gabe said as he sat up to be level with Gwen.

"Well, I can show you if you want, it looks cooler than telling you. It just sounds plain wimpy describing it." Gabe's eyes li up with excitement. He didn't wait for her answer. The plants around Gabe exploded skyward. The leaves extending rapidly, and the vines reaching over each other and intertwining. The strawberries remained the same size, he didn't exactly want to use that much energy, but the vines and the leaves grew and moved slowly in the wind. He looked to his left and all the plants in the row to his left started to magnify. Gabe looked over at Gwen and the leaves behind him started to swing dangerously. They broke off and flew towards her. He smirker and they hit the ground around her with what sounded like metal clangs. They encircled her, the plants behind him shot upward and then scooped at the nothingness of air and then shot down to their original size.

"Way cooler than saying I can control plants." Gabe patted the closest strawberry and couldn't help but blush a little. He threw his face in the wind not wanting to look at Gwen. He hadn't really shown anyone his power before. Well people had seen what he could do, but not with Gabe actually giving them a display. "Mind you, give me a sword and I would be without a right foot." Gabe chuckled, he was crap with a weapon, but with his power he didn't really need one. He wanted to see one of the big three's children try and fight him with just abilities.

Gwen laughed when Gabe said to remind him not to go one on one with her during Capture the Flag. She didn't really laugh that much so this was sign that she was definitely getting along with him. "Yep," she said, smiling. "I like you, but I'm very competitive." She smiled mischievously, rubbing her hands together. She said this lightly, but she was competitive. Sure, it was just Capture the Flag, but it was also sort of combat training. She didn't want to lose that. Plus, she had way too much pride to let herself not care about the game. Anyone on the other team went down!

Gwendolyn nodded when Gabe said he'd just show her instead of telling her. "Alright," she said. Apparently, it sounded wimpy putting it into words. But it didn't look wimpy at all. He hadn't even waited for her answer so she was definitely surprised when he started using his power. Gwen was so amazed that her mouth actually dropped open a little. She jumped a little when the leaves flew towards her and hit the ground. The sound they made surprised her too.

Gwendolyn shut her mouth when she realized Gabe was speaking. She laughed. "Yeah," she agreed. "That's fucking amazing! Holy shit!" She was sure that if he'd told her instead of showing her, she'd think it was a dorky power. But it definitely wasn't. Not only was it extremely powerful, but beautiful as well. A weird, but awesome combination, she thought to herself. Gwendolyn smirked when Gabe said he couldn't use a sword. "I don't really think you'd need one," she told him. "Your powers have an advantage over a sword though. Your plants can go a longer distance." She chuckled. Sure, you could probably throw a sword. But that was risky. It was hard to aim them too. She'd tried.

Gabe laughed out loud at her reaction. He felt kinda silly for feeling sky about his power, it wasn't like he was the only person in the weird powers boat. He could feel the warm sun on his pale skin and his nerves eased out of him. There hadn't been an attack on camp in a long time, and Gabe knew he shouldn't get comfortable but he couldn't help it. Almost everything at camp was inviting, heck he didn't even mind the intense competitiveness between cabins. He kinda licked it at the same time, it pushed him to prove his worth. Gabe looked down at one of the strawberry plants and saw the unripe green stubs that would soon be ripe. His finger brushed against the berry and the green colour slowly turned a soft pink then a rich red. He smiled, Gabe had been working on the fruits of the plants, he usually made them explode, it was a nice change as he felt the berry's sugars melt in his mouth. He smiled at Gwen as he felt his mouth water a little from the richness of the small strawberry.

He chuckled softly and brushed off her comments about his power like they were normal. He pretended to be nonchallannt, but he knew he would remember the words she had cussed as she watched his power, it would make him feel better later. "Would you like a strawberry? from cabin leader to cabin leader?" He said as he motioned with his hands all around him, they sat in the middle of the berries. He smirked at her and was glad to see her seeming in a good mood. He was glad he had wondered over and ran into her. He cleared his throat, "I promise I won't ninja star them at you." He said wagging his eyebrows at her as he laughed out loud, not knowing if it was okay to laugh. He wondered how it felt to be an Ares camper. He never really knew how it would feel to be blessed with the ability or carnage. Gabe pushed the thought from his head and smiled a tad timidly at Gwen.
